Ca' Vittoria in the Prosecco Hills

Our Ca' Vittoria winery occupies approximately 10 hectares of land in the heart of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco hills, a Unesco World Heritage Site. The unique scenery of this territory has been included in the Unesco World Heritage List as a cultural landscape, as it represents an important example of the extraordinary interaction between man and nature that has created a panorama of singular beauty.

The Prosecco Hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, a Unesco World Heritage Site

Unesco, the United Nations agency that deals with education, science and culture, has created a list of sites of historical, natural or cultural value, considered to be of universal interest and of great significance for all humanity.

The long road to Unesco recognition

The journey to achieving Unesco recognition for the Prosecco Hills lasted 10 years and required determination and shared purpose to reach the result. Here are the main phases.

  • In 2008, the Consortium for the Protection of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG launched the project for the recognition of the Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene as a Unesco World Heritage Site as an exceptional example of a cultural landscape.
  • In 2010, the site was included in the Ministry of Cultural Heritage's Proposal List, the first formal step towards the candidature.
  • In 2014, the Temporary Aim Association Colline di Conegliano Valdobbiadene World Heritage Site was set up, bringing together the public and private entities involved in the project and launching activities for the study, documentation and enhancement of the area.
  • In 2017, the candidacy was made official by the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, which started the dossier evaluation procedure.
  • In 2019, the Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene Hills were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, becoming the 55th Italian site and the 10th Italian cultural landscape to receive this prestigious recognition.

A cultural and gastronomic heritage

The Colline del Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene are an extraordinary example of a cultural landscape, the result of the virtuous interaction between nature and man over the centuries. From the terrace of Ca' Vittoria it is possible to observe how winegrowers have adapted and transformed the rugged, mountainous terrain, giving rise to a distinctive chequered appearance, with rows of tall vines alternating with woods, villages and crops. The ancient methods of cultivation, still practised today, have made it possible to produce a wine of the highest quality, the Prosecco Superiore DOCG, a symbol of Veneto's cultural and gastronomic heritage that is recognised throughout the world as an excellent example of Made in Italy.
